Supporting you through life’s challenges with warmth, compassion, and understanding.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply need someone to talk to, you’re in the right place. I’m Sue — an experienced counsellor here to offer you a safe, supportive space to explore what’s going on, and work towards a happier, healthier you.
Everyone’s journey is unique. I offer individual counselling tailored to your needs — whether you’re looking for support with a specific issue or simply need a space to talk things through.
Anxiety can affect all areas of life — from work and relationships to sleep and confidence. Together, we’ll explore what’s contributing to your anxiety, understand how it affects you, and develop simple, practical ways to manage it so you can feel calmer and more in control.
When low mood, hopelessness, or exhaustion takes hold, it can feel isolating. In counselling, we’ll gently unpack the feelings and thoughts you’re carrying, explore coping strategies, and work towards reconnecting with what matters most to you.
Past trauma can leave lasting effects. I provide safe, trauma-informed counselling to help you process difficult experiences at your own pace. Whether you’ve experienced domestic violence, grief, or other trauma, you’ll be supported with compassion and care as you find your way forward.
Veterans and their families can access free psychological services to help improve personal, social or psychological problems or difficulties. Eligible veterans and their families may seek help for challenges such as adjustment difficulties, work stress, relationship issues, identity struggles, substance use, and PTSD, with referrals available through a referral from Open Arms.
That’s perfectly okay.
Many people begin with a general session and we work it out together from there.

At Sheoak Counselling, I believe mental and emotional wellbeing are essential to living a balanced, fulfilling life. Life’s challenges can sometimes feel heavy to carry alone — and that’s where counselling can make a difference.
I’m Sue, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker offering private, individual counselling in Mandurah, Baldivis, and online via Zoom or phone. With appointments available Monday to Friday, I provide evidence-based therapy for adults, adolescents, and children aged 8 years and over in a safe, supportive, and inclusive space.
My approach is strength-based and trauma-informed, with a focus on building a trusting, collaborative relationship. I use a range of Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS), including CBT, EMDR, psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, relaxation strategies, and skills training, tailored to meet your individual needs.
Sheoak Counselling is a welcoming, affirming space for people of all cultural backgrounds, diverse sexual and gender identities, and lifestyle choices. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, or life’s everyday struggles, you’ll be supported with warmth, compassion, and care.
Starting therapy is a significant step, and it’s natural to wonder what the process will look like. At Sheoak Counselling, your first few sessions with Sue are a chance to explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve.
These early sessions may involve completing some brief questionnaires and talking through the concerns you’d like support with. People come to therapy for many reasons—common areas include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, grief, and challenges in relationships.
Scope of Practice
When you get in touch to book your first appointment, we’ll talk through the types of issues Sue can help with, as well as anything that may be outside her scope of practice. For example, Sue does not offer couples therapy or provide parental capacity assessments.
Ongoing Sessions
As therapy progresses, you’ll begin to develop a deeper understanding of the issues you're facing. Sessions may explore how past experiences—including those from childhood—have shaped your current patterns and challenges. We’ll also look at how your unique temperament, personality, and relationships influence your wellbeing.
You’ll be gently supported to explore this at your own pace. It’s okay if you’re unsure about talking about the past right away—therapy is a collaborative process, and your comfort and readiness are always respected.
Practical Tools and Strategies
Depending on your needs, therapy may include practical strategies to help you cope and create meaningful change. This might involve:
Although change can be challenging, many people find that with persistence and support, progress is possible. If things feel difficult, Sue will work alongside you to adjust the approach and ensure you feel supported.
A Holistic Approach
Sue’s approach to therapy combines two key elements:
Therapy at Sheoak Counselling is a compassionate, person-centred space to help you feel more empowered, connected, and supported in your journey.
A standard 50-minute counselling session is $180.
If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $87.25 per session (as of 1 July 2025) for up to 10 sessions each calendar year. I’ll provide any required reports for your GP as part of this process.
Mental Health Treatment Plans (GPMHTP)
To get a GPMHTP, book a consultation with your GP to discuss and prepare your plan, and they will prepare a referral to Sheoak Counselling (I can also accept referrals to other counselling services).
How Rebates Work:
You’ll pay the full session fee upfront and receive your rebate back into your bank account (usually within 2-3 business days).
No Plan? No Problem:
If you prefer not to go through a GP, you’re welcome to book sessions privately and pay the full fee.
Private Health Rebates:
Some private health funds, like HCF, Bupa, Medibank, Teachers Health Fund and Doctors Health, may offer rebates. Please check with your fund directly.
DVA Counselling:
Please call Open Arms on 1800 011 046 to check your eligibility and get a referral.
If you’re unsure about rebates or referrals, feel free to get in touch — I’m happy to help explain how it works.
